The Betrayal Tamsin L Silver 9781937266158 Books Reviews
Witches, warewolves, vampires, shape shifters...
When I heard there was going to be another book in this genre, I wasn't overly excited to check it out, HOWEVER, I am extremely pleased to announce I was completely wrong. This story maintains a unique and gripping perspective with such wonderful character development. The story grabs you and it's grip on you strengthens with each passing page. You become caught up in the world, the drama, the mystique, and most of all the relationships. The twists and turns are a delightful surprise, and you find yourself constantly wanting to know.
Looking forward to the next installment...
This first installment in the Living Dead Girl Saga by Tamsin Silver is a compelling read. Atlanta Hart is a young woman who discovers she is a member of a long-lost line of air witches. She and her best friends get mixed up with the Clandestine World, a secret society of vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters and witches. A war is brewing between the two main factions that make up the Clandestine World, and Atlanta is right in the middle of it. As if that weren't enough to set her on edge, she's having man problems of the fanged variety. Add in suspicious deaths and bloody dreams, and this girl's got a lot on her plate.
The conflict is the driving force in the novel. The proverbial stuff is hitting the proverbial fan, and big, bad things are going down. No one is safe, least of all Atlanta.
There's a huge cast of characters, and it's clear that they'll figure prominently throughout the series. All of the guys have charm to spare, but the relationship that really stands out is between Gray and Stephan, a human and a vampire. Gray is Atlanta's best friend, and Stephan is the friend of a duke of the Clandestine World. The two guys meet and, in spite of all of the surrounding conflict, make it work without sacrificing their allegiances to their friends.
Despite the romantic muddles Atlanta gets into as she tries to figure out her heart, this is urban fantasy, not paranormal romance. There's a lot of action, intrigue, and drama (at times bordering on melodrama), and a healthy mix of politics and romance. The story ends on an extreme cliffhanger, and I will be sure to read the next book in the series to find out what happens to my favorite characters. However, I will avoid other books from this publisher until they hire a decent copyeditor.
I had a great time reading this book and highly recommend it to any fan of this genre. It reminds me of a more grown up version of the House of Night books. I really look forward to the next book in the series.
The first installment of LDG The Betrayal was a good escape into the world of fantasy. This book took a new twist on the world of Vampires, Shape shifters, witches, and werewolves by not focusing on one type of supernatural, but by showing how they all interact with each other.. The characters were deeply developed, so you felt like you really knew the characters and developed a bond with them. Once you start reading this book, you won't want to put it down! I thoroughly enjoyed escaping into the world of Atlanta Hart for a little while.
